Drawing-week 29

Thanks for taking the time to look at my Art. With this drawing I wanted to show the contrast between the soft hay and the rusty wire. I wanted to play the green and red off each other. The last of summer with all the vibrant colors. I hope you like it!

Progression of a drawing

I thought it would be an interesting idea to show you how I work a drawing. First I start with a pencil line sketch.

Then I start adding in some color with my colored pencils.

....then more color..............................

....adding still more color........

I am trying to keep a mostly gray background and by making the foreground pop with color, create alot of depth. The colors of summer to me are the many hues of greens and reds. What do you think?

I will post the finished drawing tomorrow....please come back and look!

To sell or not to sell.............

I think every Artist has asked themselves this question, should I sell my art. We put a little piece of ourselves into our Art and we just can't seem to come to terms with selling it. Then the day comes when you have so many pieces in your studio, you think what is the big deal, "I will make some money to help buy more paint, brushes or pens". To take those Drawings or Paintings and have an Art Show where people come and hopefully say wonderful things about your work is very gratifying. If you are lucky, a sweet young couple with two beautiful kids will look at one of your drawings and recognize a particular scene where they once had a picnic. Believe me it feels great selling them a piece of yourself so they can always remember that day.

I have just set up a shop at Etsy. I am just getting started so have a look. Here is my web address. www.etsy.com/shop/ValleyArtProject .

Thanks for looking and please leave a comment to let me know what you think! Next week I will start up my drawing a week posts. Please come back to take a look!

I would like to Thank everyone that came to my

Artist Reception last night;

the ones that came in from out of town,

the ones that rushed over after work,

the ones that stayed 'til the end,

the ones that brought my mom,

the ones that gave me the nerve to do an

impromptu tv interview,

the ones that bought something(:,

Thanks again to all my Family and Friends!!!

Here are some photos.

This is my husband Greg,

whom I owe a big Thank you too.

He is my carpenter for the frames

and the installation of the art.

Thanks!!

I don't have a pic with my daughter, but she was there.

She was the first reason for me to do this Art Show.

Go here to see my interview. Josh Knight from Channel 3

interviewed me. I was so nervous.

I had no idea this was going to happen.
He just showed up because his

station manager thought it would be

a nice story to put on the news.

I was so thankful for the attention.
It was truly a fun evening.

Thanks for sharing this with me!!
Here is a photo of my large painting. 42" x 48"

Countdown to Art Show!

I hope that those who can come to my show will. I am really looking forward to it. I will post lots of pic's this weekend. And if you can't make it, I will let you know how it went. Here is a painting that is on display in the front window of the Clementine Cafe. My husband Greg and my daughter Laura really helped me out on Sunday. Art Show-Harrisonburg, Va, May

I have been getting everything together for my Art Show at Clementines in Harrisonburg, Va. There is an event in town called First Fridays. Every first Friday of the month local businesses host an Artist of their choice. The public is welcomed to go for a walk around town and view the art. There is music and food. The event is free. Its a great time to get out and enjoy the evening.

Located in the Historic section of Harrisonburg, Clementines is a unique restaurant. Their Gallery is located in the Basement Lounge area. The atmosphere is great for displaying Art work. My Show will run the month of May. The Artist reception is May 6th from 5-7pm. For those of you who can't attend, I will post a virtual Art Show. Here is a detail from my painting Goshen Pass which will be on display.

I am also posting my poster which will be displayed about town. Thanks for looking and try to come if you can! Clementines web-site is http://www.clementinecafe.com/

Drawing-week 27

This is probably the last "snow drawing" I will be doing for awhile.
I can't wait to start thinking "spring".
This bird was on my deck during the last snowfall and
she looked so colorful next to the gray-blue background.
If you look in the distant tree to the right you can see her mate,
waiting and looking after her. Aww.

Thanks again for looking!!

I have been getting ready for an Art Show May 6th.
I will post later about that.
